My 97 dodge 3500 5 speed all of a sudden started grinding in 5th the other day. My trannie guy thought the 5th gear was backing off the shaft, but that was not the case. He says the 5 th gear itself is coming apart, the counter gear is bad, the counter shaft is worn and the counter shaft bearing is out!!!!

How much would you expect to pay for all of this work? Should I look at a complete rebuild at this time? Help??!!

 

How bad or good is the rest of the tranny?? That is what I would look at for weather to rebuild or just repair. How many miles on it? How long do you want it to last? It is one of those questions that are hard to answer with out looking at it.
