truck won't start
truck won't start
I changed the fuel filter myself for the first time and now the truck won't start. could I have not tightend the cover down enough? I don't read any fuel pressure. What gives?
Pull the cover back off and see if there is any fuel in the canister.
Bump the starter to allow the lift pump to run for 30 seconds or so.
Leave the lid a little lose while you do this, and tighten down once fuel starts flowing out.
If the cannister doesn't fill up, your lift pump might be dead, and will have to be replaced by either you or the Dealer.
If the cannister does fill with fuel, try starting again.
You might need to hold the pedal to the floor while cranking, then massage the pedal to keep it running once it starts.
If it still won't start, you might have to loosen an injector line or two.
I've never had to do that, so someone else can chime in with that procedure.
Good luck.

Here's what I do. I have a horn switch with two space terminals on it so I can pull the starter relay out and bump the starter while under the hood. Being you have a 00 you should have the schrader valve on the fuel inlet line up at the VP. Bump the starter and push the valve in while the lift pump runs until you have good fuel flow. If the lift pump doesn't run 20 sec after you bump the starter, turn the key to off for a few seconds and then back on and try it again. If you get good fuel flow do as instructed above loosen #1 and #3 injectors at the cyl head fitting. DO NOT GO TOO LOOSE!! these are on the high side of the pump and that means lots of psi. Crank the engine until you get fuel spurts from the loose injectors. Usually about the time you see fuel there the engine will be attempting to start. Tighten the two you loosened and hopefully all is well. By the way, alot of the times I run into a hard start after filter replacement the lift pumps are sometimes bad. Test it or have it tested if you're not familiar with this prob.
Thanks guys,
I did git it started. After bumping the starter serveral times the lift pump made a slightly different noise and I started to get fuel flowing out around the cap of the filter housing. I tightend it down and a couple of tries later it worked. I have 2psi better across the board with the new filter but still far from good enough. I guess I need a new lift pump. Can I install this myself without great dificulty? I hear alot of talk of installing a "pusher pump" back by the tank. Would this be a better solution to end the problem once and for all?
