96's Light Switch Melting, Need Wiring Diagram.
Okay well I've been through my 3rd light switch (combo switch, twist left interior lights, pull out one click parking lights, pull out two clicks head lights), now and I'm thinking that I just need to wire up my own switches.
The whole back plastic connector melts to the butt connections on the light switch, causeing my headlights to flicker and die, and blow my instrument panel lights and rear running lights fuse to blow.
So I'm wondering if anyone has pictures or a diagram or can just write out a list of what color wire goes to what function.
Cause I was thinking about running one switch for interior lights, one for parking lights, and one for head lights, and hopefully that'll keep me from blowing those $60 light switches that you can only get from dodge. Cause if one of my switches happens to blow, it'll only be $2-3 for a new one.
Anyways, thanks for the help!

Yeah, I've replaced that the 2nd time I blew the switch. Still doing it, so I'm thinking that its because of the small gauge wires blowing a switch that wasn't designed for the load. Dog gone mopar parts... No problems with the Cummins part, but as far as mopar goes. Lol...

Hmm. Definitely more information than I had before you posted that, that's for sure!
I'm wondering if B1-3 would be brakes, D for dimmer, H for headlights, I for instruments, P for parking lights, and no idea for R or U.... What yall think?

If you'd like to buy the complete service man on your truck I found it at the same place I bought one on both my 05 and 06 trucks. Heres the link below. They want $19.99 for it and it's in PDF format.

Hmm. Thats for a 99, which'll have a 24v. Aside from that, money's a little tight right now (got laid off, **** economic fearmongers...), so it'd really be helpful if someone might be able to help me out with some color to function writeouts. Thanks!

The recall was for '94-'97 3500s only.
What you need to do is rewire the lights so the switch activates relays rather than carrying the entire load though the switch.

Ditto what he said - I had to replace my switch 3 times because of overheating. Last time I soldered the connectors to the switch terminals because resistance would build up over time where the wires plug into the switch - so far so good.

I burned one up on my 94. When I went to Carquest for a replacement. They gave me this "kit" that was the switch, plug, and harness, complete with instructions. The kits switch and wire gauges were much heavier the the OEM. They specifically said in the instructions to solder it in. I did, then heat shrunk the wires, and have had no problems since.

get you a headlight relay harness from lmc truck.com / or summit racing and end your burnt switch prob .
only problem is you will have app 20% brighter headlights when you are done .
