94 Starting Problem

Hi,
I recently purchased a 94 2500. Right away I noticed that I had to hold the starter longer to get it started than the other Dodge Cummins that I have owned or driven. The previous ones I've driven only required you to "bump" the starter and it would start up. This one seems almost like a typical gas burner (where you have to hold the starter a little longer). It went from just holding the starter a little longer than I was used to, to having to try three or four times while holding the throttle halfway down before it would finally start. It seems to be worse when the engine is warm. Any help is appreciated.

:P Get a flashlight and look between the motor and firewall at the fuel line if it looks wet it's seeping you need a hoist to change it --bout 100 bucks at dodge- thats what made mine hard to start-- and many more according to dodge --Glenn

Yep, probably fuel line...sucks air when it starts to cool and contracts.

Re:94 Starting Problem

When I bumped my fuel plate forward, it took about 2 extra cranks than the "bump". Once I got the plate shaved and put it back near the stock position, I am back to bumping the ignition to start it. Does your fuel pump look like it's been modded?

Re:94 Starting Problem

I haven't had a chance to really look closely at anything under the hood yet. I am in Atlanta during the week and don't have the time or facilities there to do much tinkering on the truck. Just at a quick glance I didn't notice anything unusual about the fuel pump. I will call the guy who I bought it from and ask him about any mods etc. Hopefully this weekend I can do some more investigating. Thanks again for the help.

Re:94 Starting Problem

I've recently been having the same trouble with my 95. Finally today it refuses to start at all. I changed the hoses and it started, but it only idled for a minute,at the most and sputtered out.Cranked on it to restart it with a fuel pressure guage on the inlet side of the filter and found 28 PSI. Thinking that the fuel filter may be dirty I changed it and no luck. Might try to find a longer banjo bolt and check pressure at the injection pump inlet?! Any more suggestions?????

TIA Tony

I also pulled the overflow valve and it seems to be OK.
I loosen the nut on the #1 DV and didn't get any fuel.
