91.5' won't start- electical
Ok,
Here's the deal- truck needs to be moved ASAP and it doesn't run. I put a 47RH trans in it.. starter I took it out tonight and autozone tested it as good. Not sure why.. but things in the harness were smoking with the key held on.
How to find a short? What could cause it? Is there a relay between the ignition switch/ Neutral safety switch to the starter- maybe it's bad. What's fused ..?
HELP!

I have an AZ lifetime starter. I've "won" 3 times with it. haha
the last 2 times the starter tested good at the store but Ihad to take it apart to show the mgr the burned contacts. It simply will not turn the Cummins over with burned contacts. I keep a set of heavy duty ones in the glove box just in case however.
If there is high resistance inthe starter you may get smoking wires. make sure you have a good clean ground.

yep-
I looked at the damage, wiring diagram in the truck book. @ the starter there was no heat damage and the starter works. Pulled the cable out and vola- it shorted on the support bracket @ the engine. Not fixed yet- but problem is found!
Still non-functioning. Maybe the wire is fried internally after the short.
