5 Speed Removal

Can the the transmission and the clutch housing be removed as one unit. I have a transmission jack, so I'm not worried about the addtional weight of the housing. I am instlling a new clutch. I have the jack under the truck waiting for an answer.

Thanks,
Darrin

Well I tried both ways and it won't budge. I think the input shaft is locked into the pilot bearing, that is the reason I was pulling it apart. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Level the transmission and engine so you have a totally straight line relative to the centerline of the transmission and engine, and floor. Then wrap a 10 foot chain around the tailshaft of the transmission, leave a bit of slop in the chain - just like you were going to jump rope with it- and then flip the chain a couple of real good snaps. The pilot bearing will pop right out. Just be sure your transmission jack is the type with the safety chains, as the transmission will jump back 3/4 of an inch when it lets go.

Thanks for the input. I finally got it out and put in my new South Bend 13" Con O. Now for a test drive. The hardest part of the whole thing was getting the crossmember back in.

Once again, Thanks!

Amen! I used axle grease on the sides of the frame and it helped.

I finally had to take a bottle jack and a 2X4 and make a poor mans porta power to spread the frame just enough to get it in. I was a little concerned about doing this at first, so I took measurements before and after I started to be sure everything went back to it original state. Everything is working great, and the Southbend 13" Con O if a great clutch for what I do.

Thanks,
d
