removal of 5 speed getrag

My brother just bought a 93 with a 5 speed and it has shifting troubles in and out of gear not fully getting out of one gear while trying to go into another. My question is will the engine have to be loosened or tilted to get the tranny out?

Well, according to the TSB reguarding the clutch disk replacement, dodge allowed 2.2 hrs flat rate to change the clutch. Therefore (never removed mine) it should come right out. Getrag service manual says shifter out, driveshaft out, tranny out (4 bolts and x-member) and check bolt diameter and length on the trans to bellhousing bolts to make sure it has the newer length bolts in it.

Just support the rear of the engine. I used a 2X4 6" long and a bottle jack. 2 hrs is about right to remove it.

I like to let my motor droup a little before I block it up, but its really simple to pull, I did a trans in a 4X4 in about a hour and a half by myself...Do pull the sift stub before dropping the trans.

I totally agree with mopar2ya. Remove the shift stub before lowering anything.
I just pulled everything out from underneath my '93 RAM 250 4 X 4. I hadn't done that and it got caught against the floorplate. Had to go back up with everything. Also a bottle jack with a 2 X 4 like Bob said works great. Good Luck.

Old thread but a good one. To pull the tranny, you have to remove the shifter stub which means to remove the top cover that houses the shift forks? Is that right or can the stub itself just be removed by taking out that snap ring? Thanks.

You can remove the shifter stub by removing the snap ring - shifter assembly is spring loaded and will pop out into your hand.
