3K GSK Install Mishap

I'm in the process of installing a 3k gsk on my '96 12V and dropped one of the original governor springs down into the oil galley. I've tried fishing it out with a magnet, but can't get far enough down to reach it. Will it drop down into the pan or is there any other way to fish it out? Thanks.

After you get your stomach out of your throat, take a deep breath, and then get a flexible shaft magnet. This will allow you to sneak it around the governor plates and into the bottom of the oil resevoir. It will not drop down into the oil pan on the truck, they are not connected. You may need to take the side plug off the pump to drain some oil down, or siphon it off so you can see more easily. If you can't get it out with the magnet (but you will), then you will have to take the pump off and turn it upside down, or leave the pump on and turn the truck upside down. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT use a cheap, telescopic thread-on magnet. I spent several gut wrenching hours fishing that out of my pump. I got the flex shaft and in 10 seconds had the washer out, it took the rest of the time and a pair of long-handled surgical clamps to get the magnet back. PM if you need other help. Also, seriously, do not drive and start or drive the truck until you get it out. Bad things can happen to the pump.

Thanks for the help. The flexible magnet finally did the trick. I just got back from the test drive with the new #10 and 3K GSK, and man what a difference. It's like driving a whole new vehicle.

Not bad. Only 3 1/2 hrs. Did you sweat a little trying to get it out. I'd of loved to see how you explained turning the truck upside down to the neighbors. . Really, glad to hear it came out and the truck is up a running. By-the-way, you do have gauges don't you?? Now for more bombing.

It would have gone much quicker if I didn't need to hit 5 different stores to find a flexible magnet. I installed Autometer Ultralites last week, so I'll be able to keep an eye on what's happening. Boost jumped from 16 to 25psi, and the mosquitos are no longer a problem.
