NV5600 shift lever

Can someone explain to me how to get the long shift lever undone from the short one that goes into the transmission. I tried a pipe wrench and another wrench but it doesn't seem to be threaded on. I am doing this because there is fluid coming out of the top of the transmission.

Never had one apart. My 03 manual says they are screwed together. Maybe some sort of thread lock was used, maybe left hand threads.. Can't help much.

It's threaded on...there should be a place on the bottom end of the long lever to turn it with a wrench...underneath the boot.

I think it's 3/4" or 17mm IIRC,
