24V won't start -fuel problem HELP!
OK, I put in a new lift pump from Cummins about 6 weeks ago. Had a hard time getting it started but cracking injectors 1,3&4 did the trick. Since then it has been hard starting but will always start by 2nd try or if bump it first. Figured I am getting air in the lines somewhere but I ordered a maxflo kit and was waiting till I could install that.
For about 2 weeks the truck had been firing right up (since it started getting cold here?) until this past week. Was going to try the install today but the truck won't start at all! I tried cracking injectors 1,3,&4 again but it isn't working. I am only getting fuel coming out of #4.
I am stuck here until I can get it started, can anyone help?

Try to open the water drain on the fuel filter and bump the starter. Fuel should come out of the drain- close while pump is still running.
If no fuel comes your LP is definitely dead.

If your only getting fuel coming out of the number 4 injector, that leads me to think the injection pump is dying on ya. Turn the key on and off three times, leaving it on the third time, and look at the odometer for any codes that you might have. Let us know what you have and pray to god that you don't have the P0216 code.

I am definitely getting fuel to the filter.

I got your phone msg.
Find out the fuel pressure.
It does appear to be an injection pump issue but if that lift pump you got was a dud from new that would also explain the rough starts as your VP-44 is sucking fuel to it through the lift pump and the filter. That will kill the Vp 44 fast.
Did you try unhooking your power boxes and then start it?
Recheck all their connections too. Sometimes a defective plug on an electrical box can create some havoc too.

I could not get a fuel pressure gauge anywhere in town at all.
One place said they could order one in @ $275!
Where and what kind of FP do you recommend?
I actually had just unplugged the VA box yesterday before I had first tried to start it, so today I plugged it back in to try but still no go. The TST has been turned off the entire time.
I reset the codes by unplugging the neg, battery cables, put in a new fuel filter still not working. Aside from this the truck has run great once started. I am now just starting to try the maxflo install which is great considering I can't get the truck into the garage, its starting to get dark and colder! Fun!
Since it has been running well otherwise I thought (hoped) it wouldn't be the Injector pump.

If you need a hand moving the truck, just drop me a line and I could help you move it at least..
I have manometers and fittings, we could test it, all be it for a short time..
I'll Pm my Ph# to you...

The companion code set may indicate a P0216 that didn't show on your odo code check. If you haven't already, you should get your codes read by an actual code reader, sometimes the key on-off method doesn't show everything.
Well, I got the max Flo lines done, installed Diprocol mech Fuel Pressure gauge and also discovered a broken wire inthe plug-in harness for the injection pump so I fixed that. I'm not sure if I did it while working on the fuel lines or if it was part of the original problem.
Anyway I hoped it would fire right up but no such luck. When bumping the starter my gauge only reads less than 2 psi. It should be well over 14 then shouldn't it?
I just replaced it 6 weeks ago so I'm going to call Cummins tomorrow to try and get them to replace the one I just got. The truck has been hard starting ever since I put in the new LP.
I also still got code P1693 again. Is there anyway to rent or borrow a code reader from the dealer or somewhere? I don't want to have my truck towed all the way to town just to have the codes read.

You might try one of the parts stores like AutoValue or Can Tire. They usually have that stuff for troubleshooting in the hopes you buy parts there.
I hope you get it going soon..
