Angry 24v takes a long time to start

Ok hopefully someone out there can help me. I have a 99' 24v with 63k on it. I was in Montana on a snowmobile trip and it was -20 for 3 days. Did not have a place to plug it in so it took about 1hr to get it to run. After that it was fine, well not now. When it sits for a while, about 8hrs or more it takes forever to start. I took it to the dealer and they put on a new lift pump. They told me that the stock one was only putting out 4psi. So after that it ran fine for about 3 days and now the problem is back. I took the brass plugs off the top of the fuel filter and made sure that there was not any air in there. Problem is still there. Does anyone have any ideas. I am going to bring it back the dealer tomorrow, but I am sure that it wont happen when its there. Luckily I still gave 5.5 months left on the warranty. Any help would be great!!

Since it started good right after the lift pump was replaced I would be wondering what kind of pressure the new pump is putting out. You need to put a fuel pressure gauge on your truck so that after the warranty is up you might save your vp44.

Thanks so much, I will try and see if the make a guage and a 4 guage mount so that it will match my other Auto Meter Guages. So would you say that it would also be a good idea to add another in line fuel pump before the lift pump?

I would be a bit concerned about the injection pump. After trying to start for an hour with no fuel, the pump may be damaged.
just a guess

Well I think the problem is fixed. I took it back to the dealer and what they told me is that there was a hair line crack in the filter housing that was sucking in air. The lift pump was also bad. They told me that if I have any other problems bring it back and they will put a new injector pump on. 5.5 months left on the warranty. If it is going to go bad, I hope that it does soon because what they told me is that the pump is a little over $1400.00. Well I guess I will see if it is fixed tomorrow morning when I try to start it. Thanks god for the 100,000 mile warranty from Cummins!!!

I would have never guessed that the filter hosing was cracked. Now take it out and drive it like ya stole it........... Hope the vp44 gives up the ghost before your warranty is up. Sounds like you have a good dealer to work with you like that. Congrats
