Engine takes too long to return to correct idle

Hey everybody,

Just wanted to say that I love my truck and it has been flawless except for one tiny little thing, Once the truck gets warmed up and I've been driving when I take the truck out of gear and it's just slowing down in nuetral with the clutch in or out, the engine doesn't quickly return to the correct idle, For instance If I'm slowing down on an off ramp as soon as I take the truck out of gear the tach falls all the way to about 500 RPMs and the truck starts shaking then a second or two later it revs back up to about 900 then back down to a little over 500 then back up to a little under 900 until it finally settles out at the correct idle (I think approx 750 RPM) Anyways this is starting to drive me crazy, Truck only has 5,200 miles on it and it runs great other than this.

This problem didn't occur until the first road trip. At approx 2300 miles I left from Colorado Springs and drove to Charlotte, NC. I did this in about 27 hours so the truck only rested for about 6 hours when I stopped to sleep. Everytime I slowed down after about the first few hundred miles of this trip this happened and it has been doing it ever since and the problem is worse the faster the engine was spinning, for instance if I take it out of gear with it spinning at 2200 RPM and coast to a stop the engine shudders so much it feels lilke its about to puke and stall and the tach just bobs around worse than it would if it had been at 1500 RPMs then taken out of gear.

It seems to me this has got to be some problem between the ECM and crankshaft position sensor, almost as if the signal is taking too long to get from the sensor to ECM, but the connection looks good. It has already been into the dealer once and they said they couldn't find any fix and said it still runs so it's ok, I have no faith in dealers anyway. They did say it's up to date on flashes for the ECM.

Let me know if you guys have any ideas.

Thanks

I suspect the APPS is defective. Have the dealer replace it while its under warrenty.

normal...

this has been discussed before here and on the TDR...

the engine ecm is trying to go to idle when it thinks it should not be idling [higher road speed than ±15mph]

find a dodge gasser with a manual trans and try doing what you are doing on it.. it will do the same thing [hunting for idle] until the road speed gets down low enough...

it is normal, there is no correction to it other than driving style... try getting into the habit of downshifting... i'll downshift to 3rd and finally go to neutral at about 1000rpm from 3rd... at that point it hunts like 1 time. then road speed is low enough to for engine to agree on idle speed..

***edit***

miss typed speed. had 5mph when it should have been 15mph

Whatever my truck is doing has got to be bad for the truck and speed doesn't matter. 50 MPH or a dead stop the engine will idle like crap for a brief time if the engine was revved up at all. Hopefully there is something to fix this because downshifting all the time can't be the best thing. I've been driving sticks all my life and this is the first one I've driven to ever do this. Do you guys know of any other possible sources of this problem. This can't be normal, I sure hope not.

Fuel pump pressure control valve (MPROP).

Dollars to Doughnuts.

Probably have to have a whole pump swapped though, Bosch won't let them replace just the MPROP.
