2004 P0628 Cranks no start - how to bypass lift pump?

Lift pump is mounted on the filter.

Need to get truck running. No stores have part nearby.

It looks like all i need to do is connect the fuel pump inlet to the hose coming out of the filter housing and install a inline generic filter?

Will that get me 200 miles to the nearest dodge dealer? Truck may still be under emissions warranty.

Thanks

A foot of 3/8 inch hose, 3/8 to 1/4 hose barb fitting, 6 inches of 1/4 hose, generic fram metal fuel filter, and hose clamps. I also bought some caps to cover the "in" and "out" of the stock fuel filter.

First disconnect the electrical connector from the lift pump!

I disconnected the fuel hose from the lift pump. Installed inline fuel filter here. Then a section of 3/8 hose.

Then I disconnected the 5/16th hose between the injection pump assembly to the stock filter and replaced with 6 inches of 1/4 and the 1/4 to 3/8 hose barb.

Basically I bypassed the stock filter with an inline filter.

Once everything was connected and zip tied out of danger I loosened injector #1 and cranked the engine 4 times for 5 seconds each time till all the air came out of the injector.

Tightened the injector bolt and drove 200 miles with 3000# trailer back home. The truck drove the same (level #2) but I didn't get on it in its weakened state

From reading the posts here I think I'll go with an aftermarket upgraded transfer pump.

Oh the truck has 62K miles on it and ran perfect till the pump quit (like a car when it runs out of gas).

Hopefully your build date is late enough to get in under the wire on the emissions warranty. If you can the cost to you should be $-0-.
