2001 Front brake change
Art,
Welcome to the site. There is a lot of good information of this site.
I had to take mine off when I changed my hub assemblies. They aren't that hard to do. Make sure that you have the hex size socket for the bolts to the calipers first though. Other then that I don't think that there is anything special that you need. Good Luck.

Pad/rotor change
Brakes or fairly easy.
Remove brake fluid cap (helps venting)
Remove the 2 caliper bolts (will require as special tool)
May have to push inside of caliper to take some tension off.
Caliper off: Remove old pads, use large C clamp to open caliper to allow new pads and easy reassembly.
Rotors: can be a pain.
probaly need puller
remove center bolt and attach puller.
when rotor comes off you will need to punch out studs and use on new rotor.
Getting back on spindle can be tricky (get another set of hands if you can. (rotor is heavy). Big hammer and a large socket work good (small extension). Should take a couple good hits to get started.
Easy enough?

Art don't bother turning the rotors unless they are scored. A little sanding to remove the glaze is just fine. If the rotors are warped replace them, the warp will come right back if they are turned.
You have to remove the caliper bracket to pull the rotors off. You need a 12 point socket. Make sure that socket fits VERY, VERY, VERY snuggly. Those bolts can be a major PIA to take off. We tried taking mine off and we stripped the snot out of them. They are completely smooth now. I have no idea how I'm going to pull them out now.
I believe it is a 16 mm 12 point socket. BigBlue, weld a socket to your bracket bolts and remove them that way. You need new ones anyway and sockets are pretty cheap. We just had to do that on a bud bolt on a 3 ton truck tire that I broke the square head off of with a 10' cheater pipe. Pounded a tight fitting socket over the threads and welded it. Came right off.
