Fuel pressure test , if I remember , most say that 1693 is bad news , also , I've read posts stating that there are some electrical components in IP that are not hard to replace .
But testing to prove a part is bad is first , also , with a lot of reading , it seems like the LP can go bad , truck start with IP only , but shortens the life of the LP .

P1693 is just a companion code. It only means that there is a code stored in the ecm. Most likely there will be a code P0216 in there. This is the nasty one for the IP.

i was towing a 14' haulmark with my moms 01 CTD, it started acting the same way. i thought it was a fuel filter... changed it with no improvements. got a hold of a dealer, they said it was a factory recall for the lift pump. it came from the factory with a lift pump just above the starter (sucking fuel all the way from the tank through the filters, where the injection pump takes over). the recall replaced the block mounted pump with a sub pump in the tank. my mom never got the recall i think because she bought it in 03... anyway, dodge paid for everything, it's worth a call. good luck.

Do not use this if you plan on any mods to your truck. Get a good after market pump ( check there are plenty) and you will have no future problems.
The in tank pumps require the tank to be dropped.
