1999 2500 stuck in second gear

My son is at his work trying to get home. The auto shift linkage seems to be stuck apparently in second gear. he says he can only move the shifter a small amount as it is bound up pretty tightly. I had him pull apart one of the linkages to determine where the binding is. Shifter is ok, it is apparently bound down at the transmission. I am at a loss as to what this might be.

Can anyone offer any suggestions? I am 60 miles away from him at work, and would like to be able to get him home without towing the truck if possible. Thank you.

I started another tread about this in 2nd gen as the rig is now at home. But the short story is that apparently a Band Anchor dropped out and wedged itself in between the valve body and the Rooster Comb.
