1996 inline injection pump problems
I bought this truck used in a auction. It has 307k miles on the engine. The engine turns over for about 10 - 15 seconds before trying to start. If I push down on the throttle peddal a little bit then it starts pretty quick. If you let it idle the engine sounds great. If you drive it on the road and get the rpm in the top range the engine runs very rough. Seems like it is runing out of fuel maybe. My mechanic said that the lift pump is working fine and wants to pull the injection pump and have it rebuilt. It is a Bosch P7100 inline pump and rather expensive to have rebuilt. Thought that I might post this for any help before we go ahead and rebuild the pump. Any help would be appreciated.

I dont think thats enough miles to have it rebuilt. The truck defuels its self around 2800rpm or maybe even alittle befor. So if your up there and its running "rough" maybe thats it. I also hear that if your starter brushes and stuff are warn the starter dosent have the power to turn the engine fast enough for the instant start we ususaly get. Fixinrams.com or something has a little kit on fixing the starter. You can do what you want of course but I always try the cheapest things first 307k is just broken in.
