06 Cummins hard start "sometimes"

Hey folks,

Wondering if anyone can give me some information. I have a business neighbor who has a 2006 Cummins 6-speed that gives him real long crank times before it will fire sometimes. He says that it will do it cold and also do it when the motor is still warm. It does not follow any particular pattern...it is completely intermittant. He has taken it to Dodge service 3 times now and they have told him that there is a flash update coming soon to resolve the problem. He said the first time they reflashed the truck it was problem free for about 6 or 7 days and then returned.

Anyone else experiencing this? Any possible fixes other than a reflash or common problems to tell the dealer or for him to try on his own?

Thanks for any insight to this!
-Kenny

Do a search for "long crank". Lots of info out there on this.

He said he was in for a reflash, but I do not know when it was. I will let him know that it is most likely the TSB covered issue.

Thanks much guys.

I had mine flashed a month ago, and so far I have not had the long crank.

Wink

I always turn the key on and give the lift pump a short period to run before cranking. I have noticed at times if I don`t wait, it has an extended crank.
Try it and see if it reduce`s the rate of extended cranks.
