Fleetgard is a Cummins company. Your local Case-IH dealer will sell you a Fleetgard labeled filter that's the same, but probably a couple $$ less than a Mopar-branded.

To the original poster: have you filled out your signature? It clears up much confusion. Sorry about this happening to you...

Have a lawyer write a letter demanding fulfilment of the commitment created by the purchase of the warranty. Make sure the lawyer makes it clear that you will seek all costs to have them satisfy the warranty and all costs for alternative transportation.

As the $ figure for non-performance rises, they will act more quickly. I.E. They probably know that if you're stubborn enough you'll win, and are hoping you'll bail for a 50% deal or something. A registered letter coming from a lawyer to their office that demonstrates the bill you cause them will only increase as they delay, they will probably act more quickly. Also it will probably just get forwarded to their legal dept. who will ask a few questions and likely rubber stamp it/call dealer and tell them to repair it immediately. I would go to a different dealer anyway, sounds like that one is not out to satisfy their customers.

Yep, I'd like to see that part number, all I buy is fleetguard from the Cummins dealer because, of all people, Cummins should know better and have a good filter made, I'm not worried about cheap, I just don't want the stuff to come apart and wad my engine.

What other choices do we have? Cummins says Fleetguard or Mopar and even though Fram says it's ok.....now.....no way I'll believe them but now Cummins is saying, oops??? I say, yikes!!! Stop having everything made in freakin' China!!!

AMEN!

However, we must keep in mind that while money does not make the world go 'round....Money certainly does keep the world from stopping. So, as the bean counters cut costs looking for cheaper manufacturing, they can't help but look to offshore!

Whew!

Sorry guys been out of town.. It was a Fleetguard filter. I am not sure of the part number. I'll check at the shop to see if they have thrown it away yet. I bought it at a local fuel injection shop (can't say the name because ill get slapped for ADVERTISING) and it was bought second week in August. But for all you guys out there not sure about your filter, if it was a FG i'd go ahead and replace it just so you CAN SLEEP at night. I will def. run a seperate filter from now on. The motor has been ordered and will be in sometime this week. I AM COVERED FINALLY.

Thanks dmscumnz, This is a omen,I am from central Texas and I also bought my fleetguard filter on the second week. I just replaced it a day before you posted your engine being blown. It has only 52 miles on the filter. When I read your post I grounded the truck. I will buy another filter and pull that fleetguard off right where the truck is parked. This was my first fleetguard,I been using the mopar from dodge, and my last one.Iam glad that you are cover and getting a new engine.

This isn't good, I bought a case of fleetguard filters back in the late spring.

I would love to find out if its a batch or a certain part number.

Oh the joys..

I called the cummins outlet where I got the fleetguard and they did not get any notice on bad filters,to pull of the shelves.I then called cummins filtration and spoke to a tech who told me that they have not had any problems with any of their oil filters. The tech put me on hold and checked with the warantty deparment and no claims have been file with them.He told me if this person had his engine blown by one of our filters that he should have made a claim with cummins filtration. He told me that they would sent out a notice to all of their outlets on the bad filters, and post it on their website. No one has reported any problems with any of their filters.I even called genos and they also said no recalls from cummins.Thats all they sell and no problems. The tech strest to have that person call us so that we can help him out.

When the cummins tech told me that he would sent out a notice, that is only if they knew of a problem with any of their filters, they would let the public know.He told me not to worry about it that there is nothing wrong with their filters. They did not have a bad batch.

Me and dad have been running FG for about 12 years now. We also run them on our long haul trucks. The USMC uses them on the big CAT engines in the 7 ton trucks. I think the filters are fine. You may have found a bad filter in the bunch. I will take my chances.

We've heard ZERO about Fleet Guard sending out filters that didn't make QC... so who knows - maybe another explanation?

Sounds like there's more to the story (not blaming the OP).

Well I guess this site is dead. That guy with the blown engine never posted again, I am glad that I did not change my filter.AND ALL IS OK with the fleetguard filter.Maybe it was the filter, maybe it was not, that blew his engine. But I really think that cummins filtration would warn the public if there was something wrong with their filters.
