05 Blew Up!
Did you have it torn down yet? The guy i bought mine from had a message from dodge saying some oil filters break down. The filter medium then makes it way to the piston oil cooling nozzles the wrist pin. They lube the pin and cool the bottom of the piston.

Chrysler service contract?? or something else.
Personally I don't know of a writer or parts department that WOULDN'T want to make that sale (yes, even though it's contract it still shows on the bottom $$$ line). Of course the tech will have to hustle to make that 9 hours (most likely take it up the whaazooo). If it's an aftermarket contract I can almost guarantee that you will end up with a used engine with "similar" miles.

chrysler can use their master scanner to tell exactly what that truck has done, when it done it and how it done it, dealer can't do it, chrysler is the only one that can and the only one that will if pending a lawsuit worth money. your case might not be worth their while but i would definately have a cummins certified technician look at it and get written statement from him on the damage and what could of caused it, even evidence from people on the internet with similar problems could help, and get a lawyer.
Well I contacted Cummins about my situation. They asked what filter I was running. Went to the shop and checked the filter # on the truck. Called them back. They took a deep breath and said that they have had a few problems with the Cummins filters coming apart and clogging the oil galleys and paths. Interestingly enough, even when the motor came apart but was still "running" it had plentiful oil pressure... They said it could keep pressure if a filter particulate was hung up in a lubrication supply to a rod or crankshaft bearing - because it would not compromise the rest of the oil circulation. So... I asked them if this was indeed the case what THEY could do for me. Of course, its catastrophic and they can "do absolutely nothing". Blah blah blah!
DM, what filter were you running?
Did I read that right that they have CUMMINS filters coming apart?
I gotta know the number now man.......... And is there any other info regarding your warranty?

This particular truck has never had a programmer. My other truck (in my signature) has Edge Juice w/ Attitude on it. Both trucks I use for my business. But had more problems ALWAYS with the bone stock truck! ! ! !
I'm currently not at home where I have the filter number written down. Cummins told me to just replace the filter now because the possibly troublesome filters have been removed from the market (too late in my case - guess they didn't understand the fact that I was telling them the motor CAME APART). I'll get the # for ya and post it when I have access to the number.
