05 Blew Up!

My 2005 3500 6spd blew up this past weekend! ! Have extended warranty and they trying to deny me saying truck was "juiced".. But I bought it new and its never ever ever had a program on it or anything..... Was driving the truck started running crappy... then started tapping. I got off the throttle and waited for a shoulder to pull off and boom! Hung a rod out the side of the oil pan and another out the side of the block.. just had an oil change... just checked the oil. Asked the dealer for proof of a foot print and they said they didn't need one because most programmmers don't leave a footprint.. well truth is I never ever had one! Any ideas why truck did this?? Thought at first maybe turbo came apart and went thru motor... but turbo is fine. Thought an injector may have hung open.. but local private diesel shop said it couldn't have been. HELP!

I would call DC's coporate office and ask them for help, especially since you didnt mod it. It sounds like it was a fluke engine. Probably need to contact a lawyer and your insurance company to cover yourself. I cant believe a dealer would try to pull one like that. From what Ive been told, they can detect anything that has disrupted the computer thru the key cycles. By the way how many miles are on it. Maybe someone else with this experience will chime in. Good Luck.

It just turned 122,000 miles of nothing over 80mph and only pulls my small enclosed motorcycle trailer...

I had a voicemail I just checked from the dealer saying now, "The oil residue left behind in the motor seems to have diesel and/or water in it..". Well no duh, a rod thru the side of the block and the head being cracked, i'm sure that between parts flying around it could have easily knocked an injector tip off thus explaining the diesel? and pretty sure that with a motor coming apart like that and shredding the block, it ruptured a water jacket thus explaining the water. BTW, locked up so hard it knocked the driver's side motor mount off haha

Oh and he also mentioned in the voicemail that he didn't appreciate my frustration because "things happen to trucks with that high mileage on them". Funny my '93 had 600k miles on it when I sold it and had nothing but oil changes and normal service work until half a million miles and I had the pump rebuilt. Funny my 01 had 247k on it and only had one vp44 replaced. Funny my '03 had 300k on it when my brother totalled it and had never been in the shop. So??

Theyre in business to make money and warranty repairs dont do that. My advice is to retain a lawyer and call cummins themselves about this. Ive read something similar to this before where they tried to get out of it. I think it was about a 53 block repair? If I remember cummins leaned on dodge to repair it.
The bit about a programmer is apparently fairly common. They will try to weasel out any way they can. Id keep all your receipts for any additional transportation costs as well as the dates and people involved.

Well when you sign an extended contract and write a $4200 dollar check, they need to follow thru with their obligation. They came to me soliciting to extend the contract!

Wow, that engine did come apart. Uggggg.
Might check, who did the oil chance, was the correct oil used?
How long is the extended warranty for? Miles, time?
In my 02 truck manual, I think on page 11 it states the cummins 100K warranty starts after the DC warranty expires.
Good luck.

The correct oil was in fact used. And as mentioned earlier. They are saying there is water and/or fuel in the oil. Well think about it... *pasted from above * a rod thru the side of the block and the head being cracked, i'm sure that between parts flying around it could have easily knocked an injector tip off thus explaining the diesel? and pretty sure that with a motor coming apart like that and shredding the block, it ruptured a water jacket thus explaining the water.

May have spun a piston rod bearing. That happened to mine at 13k miles. It took only a few miles from a slight tick tick tick to a KNOCK KNOCK. Once a piston comes loose all bets are off. It is not very common but some of the posts I have read, it is not as rare as I thought. I had a good dealer and all under warranty was up and running in 10 days. Good luck hope all works out for you.

I've read couple of posts on here where folks asked how many miles your extended warranty is for, but haven't seen your reply.
