03 Ram Stalling...

Symptoms...

1) Engine idles fine.

2) Engine sometimes takes a little longer to start than usual.

3) Truck stalls only when driving...Sometimes it stalls within a few blocks, other times it stalls within a mile of travel.

4) After every stall, the engine restarts by turning over the ignition while pushing the accelerator to the floor.

5) Fuel filters 1 week old.

6) Check engine light has NOT come on once. (Trucks stalled 5 times)

1) Cant read fuel pressure yet.... I reset my Quadzilla Recon & can't figure out how to activate the fuel pressure feature. (The manual doesnt show how... waiting for Quadzilla to get back to me.)

2) Check engine light has not come on, but I plan on checking codes shortly.

3) Hooked up a little $60 aftermarket 12 volt diesel pump (inline behind the Carter/Federal Mogul aftermarket lift pump @ the filter housing) but the trucks still stalling.

Could be anything fuel related from the lift pump to CP3 to the fuel rail to the ECM/PCM. I guess you don't have a rail pressure gauge, either.

Get those codes. Hopefully we'll be able to narrow it down to a stuck FCA or something simple.

Have you checked the fuel? Did you just fill up, or had you been running the tank for a while?

Update.........

Update......

1) SURE ENOUGH... Found CODE 0628 (FUEL PUMP VOLTAGE LOW)

2) Fuel pressure is reading zero. (Finally got the Quadzilla Recon back to reading fuel pressure).

3) Trucks got a 1/4 tank of fuel...haven't filled up in over a week.

4) Correct... unfortunately I dont have a rail pressure gauge.

Looks like a dead CARTER/FEDERAL MOGUL Lift Pump

Anyone happen to know the voltage I should be seeing with my fluke meter at the LP harness... always wondered how much voltage is fed to the LP(?)

Looks like its gonna be a few weeks for a warranty replacement pump to arrive from autopartswarehouse

If anyone has an original/stock LP lying around you wanna part with, please let me know, maybe we can work something out?

Just finished installing the LP on the filter housing and wanting to do things right...was wondering if these trucks have a strainer on the pickup tube in the tank? With over 80k on the OD changing out the strainer seems a good idea...plus I've heard of others getting higher carter LP pressure readings (higher than the 7-8psi im currently getting). Just really hate to go through the hassle of dropping the tank only to find there's no strainer.

If I did have an original around I would do you the favor of NOT sending it to you. In tank pump is the way to fly or at the very least....one of the many aftermarket pumps that mount on the frame rail. I prefer the in tank.

Thanks! Gonna drop the tank and check out the strainer. Since the Carter/Federal Mogul LP was under warranty I figure I'll just run the replacement til I have the cash for a heavier duty inline LP.

Decided to call Dodge parts dept before dropping the tank and found out there's no strainer on the pickup tube within the tank....infact the dealership said there's no reference to a strainer or associated part number anywhere in their computer system. Glad I didn't waste my time pulling the tank!
