02 6speed question
I have a 2002 3500 (cab and chassis) 6 speed transmission. Lately its ben tricky to get into gear. But only while not moving. Shifts perfectly while under way or if I tap the throttle while sitting still. Is this common? Also, any one know what make of transmission this is. When I bought it, the brochuer said (available allison transmission) Thanks
Your tranny is the NV5600. New Venture is the manufacturer. What you are describing about having to blip the throttle is common. Lots of folks run Redline gear oil (MTL) in it to help with smoother shifting and get rid of the notchy-ness.

Amen, Jaa. Mine too. I have 50,000 miles on her now and it is getting worse. I sold my '99 5 speed because the pilot bearing was going out and it wouldn't shift worth a toot. I'm glad this is common. It really bugs that crap out of me though. I hope this tranny is better than the one in my '99. Good thing is, this '02 H.O. will out pull my '99 any day.
Thanks for bringing this up! Maybe someday someone will make a tranny worth putting in a high torque truck that will last.
