Hopefully you don't have the bigger problems. Check your FP, just how cold is it there? Got any codes?

Just have to run it for a day and see what happens. If it's staying pretty cold wherever ur at, then I would keep some Power Service or sumthin of that nature in the fuel.

its not very cold it was like 20 degrees yesterday also i have been keeping an anti gel additive in it something new though if you let it idle for a while then start driving it it would have power but missing in higher rpms but once id shift into 4th gear and get around 2k rpm it would go into like a limp mode and have no power

turn the key on/off/on 3 times and look in the odometer window. you will see some info ranging from po216 to p-done. if you see po216, or p1688 you just became $1000.00 poorer

I had similar symptoms when I set off the check engine light when I disconnected the map sensor. I think the computer may have gone to default fuel mapping. Restarted the car 10 times with it connected, problem solved.

limp mode from 99 to 02 engine swap

I did a '99 to '02 engine swap using all sensors, ECM and wiring harness from the 02. I have exactly the same problem. Good RPM in neutral and park. RPM limit of 2K in any other gear. Seems to be in limp mode. Have tried the switch on/off/on for 3 times and only get the mileage displayed in the odometer window. I have an appointment with a diesel shop next week, but would like to resolve this before I have to pay out big bucks.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hate to give bad news, but I just had the exact same thing. White smoke on start up, dead pedal. Just had a new VP-44 put in and all those symptoms are gone. I got away with the dead pedal for over a year but getting it towed the 2nd time was the last straw for me. I would recommend just biting the bullet and getting it fixed. You will be a lot happier.

The 99 PCM won't give you codes with the key. Did you change it also? Try a scanner to get them. As for the first poster, 99% sure he will be needing a new IP. JMO

I appreciate the answers. I little more info on my problem. The reason for my engine swap was that I had a cracked 53 block. Engine was running fine last month when I began the swap. When I start the engine now, I donot get a cloud of white smoke as Midw3sthOnky and Diesel Burner describes. I get a small puff of black smoke like I always have.
I did install a new fuel filter and cleaned and reoiled by air filter (to eliminate this a potential problem I have tried running the engine without an air filter.)
The truck will reach 67 MPH is you hold a steady 1500 RPM but pushing passed that the engine stalls at 1950 RPM.

I didnot change the PCM. Have tried ODBII scanner but no codes showing. Hoping a friend's friend can get hi shands on a DTR scanner overnight to check for other codes.

Took the truck today and had the codes read by a DTR. Code 501 (VSS,range or performance problem). Mechanic states that he thought it was a restricted fuel flow problem but didn't have a solution. MAP, LP, IP checked out okay. Should add thatI have a new fuel filter.
Still beating my head on this issue.
Appreciate any suggestions.

Truck is fixed. Took it to Chrysler dealer to have ECM reflashed. ECM had current software. Explained all my actions to the mechanic. He took the books home with him and determined the '99 didnot have the same Vehicle Speed Sensor as the '02. The '02 ECM was looking for a signal that was not being sent. He installed a wire between the ABS speed sensor module behind the brake master cylinder and the ECM wiring harness (I think he told me pin 43.) Truck now has full power in all gears. Cost $300. Truck is still throwing a low charging code, but volt meter is showing 14+ volts and ECM indicates it is receiving proper voltage. Mechanic thinks there is some between the ECM and PCM that is triggering the codes. It was not worth another $300 to sort this out, since My charging system is working.

You better send that dude a Christmas card this year. Not to many dealer mechanics take the time or even have the knowledge anymore to solve those kind of problems. Better give him a pat on the back and buy him a cup of coffee.
