WV TDI's??
considerign buying one of these either jetta or golf...I understand there is quite a following on the net for these...I wanted to ask here fi5rst about dependability, common problems, etc...what kinda mileage can I expect out of these before its not worth buying one and are they bombable?

There was a recent long thread about them here. General consensus is that they are very nice and can be bombed. I love mine. I recommend the Passat.

my dad and I took a trip to Odessa from Austin a few years back in his 5 spd. tdi golf. It was 350 miles one way and we made it on half a tank. Thats 50 mpg, so I'd say milage is exceptional
My Dad bought one last year.. flew to Denver and drove it back.. (bought it new.) he got 50mpg coming home.. they average 46-52 with it... a little less with the one take of Bio he ran through it... They have about 30-35K on it, with no problems.. its about all they drive now.. the truck never goes anywhere..

We have 2 TDI's. One is a 2000 and the other is a 2002. VW's are not the most reliable car on the road. Get a Toyota or a Honda if you want that.
Both our cars get over 45 mpg. Not quite 50mpg. Both our cars are modifyed with a chip and bigger nozzles. My 2000 also has a bigger turbo. I love TDI's. They go like good when modded and they get GREAT fuel mileage. Oh yea they are both 5 speeds. Autos get less mileage. And I am running B100 in our 3 diesels.

Great cars, go drive a few i bet you like them. The only common problem i know of is the intakes carbon up because of the EGR not sure if the later years still had that problem or not. Check out this site http://www.tdiclub.com/
