What are you guys using for reference to determine the actual size?

I can't seem to figure it out.. They could be the size of a coffee can for all I can tell.

While they obviously look big, good photography can make anything look way bigger than it is.

Looks like a locomotive or ship motor. I think that is someone's blurred head in the bottom? I bet they would sound cool though!

i'd have to say a ship, we moved parts for one being built a few years ago(container type) and the cylinders were so big 4 guys could comfortably stand in one(out of 12)

Look behind the turbos, you can see what appears to be cylinder heads (one behind each turbo). Based on the angles of the heads I'd say that engine is definitely a V type configuration. Maybe a 12 cylinder or larger, either for a really big generator or service as a prime mover.

I would say that would probably be a really big motor for a ship, though could it be for an absolutely massive generator too?
