Will I loose mileage going from 315’s to 305’s?
Will I loose mileage going from 315’s to 305’s?
I average around 16mpg with my 315's. I have a 2" leveling kit and they still rub. It is driving me nuts. I want to get rid of the 315's and go with a 305 or a 285. What will this do to my mileage?
Should improve you city mileage a little maybe and probably break even on the highway mileage. I lost city mileage and highway stayed the same when I went up to the 315s.
Are you run stock wheels and still rubbing with a leveling kity.

I'd say you will definetely tell a difference. Your mileage will be better. Just look at a 305 mounted on a rim and then look at a 315 mounted on a rim. The 315 is a much bigger tire. I'm thinking of doing the same thing. I used to get 18 mpg total. Now I get 16 mpg. Doesn't sound like much of difference but it really is. I've been pulling really heavy lately so the 315's with 3.54's are getting old. I'm going to a 33x12.50/17. Going to buy some new wheels and upgrade to 17's.
yup, my 35's, even w/ a 6sp an a Piers 35/12 on top are a little much w/ 3.54's... real easy to fog people out if I don't pay attention to where I am on the tach!
I wanted to go 255/85's, but I think I'm pretty much settled on 285/75E BFG AT's (couldn't find a 255/85E that I wanted)

Hmmm - I run BFGs (AT KO's) on my trucks and there's less than half an inch of difference between the 295's and 315's heights...
Wider tires tend to have more rolling resistance, drag, and run lower pressures - all of which reduce mileage.
Taller tires turn fewer RPMs, which aids fuel economy.
As previously posted, the best "mileage" tire would be a tall, skinny, high-pressure, hard compound non-aggressive tread stiff sidewall unit.

This chart shows the updated specs for BFG AT KOs including the new sizes. I will be getting the new 305/65/17Es when my 285/70/70Ds wear out.
