Seems like I've been seeing a lot of trucks for sale in the classifieds section. More than usual. Also on Autotrader, I'm seeing more 12v's at cheaper prices. It took me almost 6 months to find my truck the way I wanted it (12v, auto, 4x4, ext. cab, etc.). But now I see some comparable trucks on Autotrader for around the same price, if not cheaper than what I got it for... I remember going through phases lasting up to a month where there were absolutely NO trucks the way I wanted for sale. Are fuel prices finally driving people down?

 

While some are down-sizing, I'm sure quite a few are upgrading (newer models).

 

They run in spurts. About 4 months before I bought my 95 I had to pass on a 98 5spd 4x4 that was $4500. The owner had no idea what he had. When I could finally afford a down payment there was nothing for sale. I went and looked at a truck for $7500 that was beat to death more than once. Definatly run in spurts and all the new incentives help. I think values will sky rocket after the 07s come out and the new emmissions kill MPG.

 

My bet is a lot of folks don't like the fact that diesel fuel is always higher than gasoline nowadays.

 

Where I am living diesel is about 12 to 15 cents cheaper than diesel...

 

Ok I give up, which is it?

 

30¢/ga higher than regular unleaded for me at $3.29 a gallon

 

It's 3.08 a gallon here while unleaded is about 2.85. Both prices are ridiculous, but the diesel is getting outrageously expensive. Mine is in the market becuase I'm in the process of making a career change and I'll be making less money. I don't mind it. I would rather do the new job than my old one and the pay cut is worth it to me.

 

Diesel is pretty much the same price as regular unleaded here. If not cheaper...

 

It's been running 15-20 cents cheaper for diesel in this area for the last several months, but in the last few weeks they have become about the same. This afternoon I noticed the price is within 2 cents. Diesel is still cheaper.

 

Good thinking on the job - life is too short to be stuck doing something everyday that you just don't enjoy. Don't worry, you'll be able to pick up another truck someday if you want it...having a good occupation will really bring meaning to your life.

There are lots of trucks for sale here too, just watch out for flood victums!

 

My personal opinion is that whenever the media breaks a story about something big like the Pipeline in Alaska being out of commission, owners try to outsmart the marketplace by putting their vehicle up for sale right away before the fuel prices go any higher.

I also think that owners that were on the fence about selling get a sense of urgency that tells them they better sell now or risk not being able to sell if the fuel prices go up.

This is all on top of the normal selling cycle that already exists. This is only my opinion, but I was in the exact same situation a few years ago with a truck I was selling and had these thoughts described above.

Unfortunately Trade-in values stink, even on our great trucks. If I could get more I would be driving as new truck today! So, the only way out is to sell outright. Trade in on my truck is only $19,000.00 while the dealers are selling the same trucks for $31,000.00 around here! Seems they make more on a used vehicle than the new ones.....
