Why no grid heater...

in the volkswagon tdi's? I just assumed that all newer diesels had a grid heater to warm things up before cranking it, but a lady I work with thought I was nuts because I didn't just jump in and start up my truck.

The VWs use(d) glow plugs like the Fords & Chevys.

It's real nice to have those when after they get miles on them, and the tips burn or break off, and fall into combustion chamber, wrecking head and scoring cylinder walls . Funny they didn't copy the best design there is, as Cummins have.

Guess they didn't learn from their previous mistakes using glowplugs.
