who can school me on lift pumps

i just want to know the basics of what a lift pump does and if it exists or how it varies between the various generation trucks (especially for my '07 5.9).

Got frustrated with the having to wait 60 seconds between resubmitting refined searches.

lpm supplies the injector pump with fuel. 12v its a mechanical pump on the block.. 24v and the 3rd gen up to 04.5 its electric and its mounted on the back of the fuel filter canister, most problematic of all pumps.. 05 and up its in the tank.

The lift-pump supply's fuel to the injection pump. The 1st gen lift-pumps were the low-pressure, camshaft driven, diaphragm type. In '94 they switched to the higher pressure & volume, camshaft driven piston type.

Not sure about the newer trucks.
