Stationed at Ellsworth...
Anybody here on DTR ??? Just wondering. I have a p/t job at Wally World changing oil, and I serviced your truck yesterday. I wanted to say HI and suggest that you stop using Fram oil filters on your nice CTD.

I don't know what everyone has against Fram. I've been using Mack filters made by Fram for about 600,000 miles in my Bulldog without a single problem. I've heard the Fram in no good speach for years and no one can tell me where it comes from.

Fram is bad?

Wow, that's news, I've been using Fram filters ever since I started changing oil (not to say how old I am, but thats about 27 or 8 years ago), and I can't remember having a single problem with them....

I believe that some people have had them explode. Also if you cut a fram open, and cut a donaldson, wix, or most others, the fram has much less filter media.

Some people have had them come apart on the inside and go threw the motor. Have seen this one time. Warranty didn't pay for the repair. Fram finally paid. Had to have a long block and turbo.

Wow, never heard of them coming apart! I thought it was something in the filter element itself, like silicone maybe, or the ports being small, i'm not 100% sure...

Everyone seems to like Fleetguard, so that's what i've always used...

I have been told time and again by the local Mack dealer that thier filters are made to Mack specs, not Fram specs. In Fram's higher end filters, they do use the same construction as most other filters.

I dont think its so much a "it aint no good" as it is "there are better on the market"

I believe the days of a GOOD Fram are gone to Wally World. Im sorry even if they do the job, and even if no one has a problem, cardboard construction wont see my engine. But I would use a Bulldog-Mack filter if they made one.

The problem with frams are the oil filters are capped with cardboard and not metal. I'm not sure if this is true on all models, but it's definately not a good sign
