Remanufactured Cummins Engines

I am not sure where the new 5.9's are built now (for sure 10's of thousands were built in North Carolina years back), but we have bought approx 40 complete (not long blocks) remanufactured marine 5.9 & 8.3 Cummins engines this year and all of them were built in Mexico. I believe all production from Cummins RECON (a subsidiary of Cummins Engine Company, Inc.), on-highway, off-highway, and marine engines is now has now gone south to the Mexico plant. Strictly economics......

Just a Marine Guy lookin' In

Some might be surprised if it was REALLY made known how much stuff is cast, poured, built, rebuilt, assembled...etc.. south of the border. The world is quietly going more and more global. We aren't alone anymore.

That is not entirely correct. The temp employees were layed off, not the full timers. They still make those engines for other applications so the plant is still in production. As of right now when I am typing this they are on Christmas break until Jan.2 just like myself.

I also work in the automotive industry, and it is normal to have this time of the year off.
