Re-manufactured Engine

I was told today by my dealer who is in the process of installing a new engine or a reman engine cause DC does not sell new just remans. I also called there competitor who told me the same thing. I even called Cummins SW out of Phx but they havent returned my call. Can anyone tell me if this is true. I cant see a reman motor costing 13,900$ cause that is what they are charging the dealers insurance who screwed up mt truck plus 2000$ for install.

I just got my truck back last week with a new long block and turbo installed. They made no mention about a reman unit for it. But now you scare me with the possibilities....

I was also told reman engine has 12 month waranty but my dealer assured me I would retain my Cummins waranty 5 yr 100,000. I also want that in writing when i pick up my truck. So we will see when the time comes.

There is a typical clause in insurance plans that says that they can use re-manufactured parts rather than new parts (they do that to save on repair costs). And you probably have agreed to that policy whether you realize it or not.

It wouldn't surprise me that DC has a similar clause in their warranty policy.

I know of a shop in town here and that is 70% of their work re-maning engines for the Dodge dealers in the area 3 or 4 atleast. I was told that they install sleeves in the cylinders rework the head and install all new seals, berings and bushings and replace pistons (only where required). They have short blocks ready on hand one for each dealership so I was told.

Maybe I missed something, but why are you already putting a motor in a 2005? If the truck in your sig. is having the motor installed, why isn't D.C. offering you a buy back, or a new truck?? If my '05's motor went, no way at all would I want to be driving an '05 that already needed a motor!!

I would make sure that you didnt agree to a remanufactured engine first. Second, I would get me a lawyer or at least threaten to get one to get a new motor. No matter how you look at it, a remanufactured motor has parts in it that have seen more service life already than your new truck has on it.

What i was told by 2 different dealers is that you cannot buy a new engine at all. All that is available are remans.that what i was asking about if this is true. I have the long post about Dealer forgot to tighten drain plug it explains why the new engine.

In my eyes I see nothing wrong with a factory reman engine. It will have the rest of your warranty on it and will work just as good or better than a new engine. Be glad you didn't get a junkyard engine. Who knows what kind of shape it would of been in. You'll be fine. Don't get so worked up about it. Some people that do engine work are awesome. They know everything that goes wrong and how to prevent it especially for diesels.

I do not see how you will be fine if you dont get the cummins warr. with that reman engine. 12 month warr sure does not = up to a 5 year warr.

The warranty is for the REMAINDER of the 7/100 or what not.It may if purchaced through a D.C. dealer come with a 3/36 such as Mopar reman trannys etc.Don't forget when its sold or used through a D.C. dealer(warranty or customer pay) CUMMINS is not in the WARRANTY picture any longer as they sell to D.C.with NO WARRANTY.
