Whats it worth?? CR killed by ether???

I have a nieghbor that has a 03-05 4 door that has been sitting for quite some time. I started lookking into it a little and found out it was a company truck that was fed a little too much ether. It has a knock, and 250K. I have not looked at this truck or have I heard it run, this is all from a friend of mine, and he isn't a Cummins guy He told me it is a 6spd truck and the body isn't perfect, but what would a truck like this be worth? How much does a rebuild cost for a CR? I would be doing all the work myself, since I do this stuff for a living. I wantto go over to his place this week and look the truck over just to see if it really is as bad as my buddy says. Let me know what you all think, and I will try to get some pics of it.

Yeah, an injector knock in those trucks sounds pretty nasty. I passed on a nice one because I thought it was about to come apart. Guy that bought it threw in new injectors and she runs good.

How bad could it be if it was fed too much ether? Would it crack the pistons, or blow holes in them? I was told they used the ether to start it after they ran it out of fuel, but I don't know.

All they had to do was bump the started and let the fuel system self purge

As long as the grid heater was unhooked either really shouldn't hurt anything. To much either will just slow the cranking way down but I have never seen it hurt anything.

I don't know? Maybe they shouldn't be allowed to own diesels (it was a company truck)

That s what I was thinking, at the very most it may mess up the intake seals, but I didn't think it would hurt the engine much. I need to get over there and check it out, would it be possible the either igniting early caused one of the tips to melt as it injected the fuel into the cylinder?

But did you use a whiff or 1+cans? That is what they did. At least that is what I am told.

if anything it dropped a valve, you can use gas and a rag it will cause less problems then the ether to see how bad it knocks

The truck starts and runs, just has a bad motor noise. How much does a overhaul kit cost for one of these? I have never priced one out. How about the injectors?

injectors are about 350 on up, overhaul kit has to peiced togehter cuz cummins doesnt offer a kit for these motors been their done that. so that price depends on what you want to fix or replace starts about 200 and goes up

shut off injectors

Can't you use a scan tool and manually shut off each injector and eliminate them as a source of the problem. If there is a bad injector the noise should go away when you shut off the bad one. Just a thought. Twogun

you can try that method but a pop test would be better, scan tools wont really tell to much. they had to do a flow test when the where checking mine on my 03 at the dealer one time
