From what I've heard, the new DOT regs were to combat the guys pulling "hotshot" trailers. You know.. the 1 ton duallies pulling 48' trailers and not running apportioned plates or buying the IFTA sticker, etc, etc.
A hot shot outfit can almost haul as much payload as a class 8 semi. Those people are making it hard for us that want to haul the occasional tractor to a show or whatever.

Don't know what new regs there are. A hotshot runs under the same regs as a class 8. A truck is a truck is a truck. Hot shot can carry just about 1/2 a load as a class 8. Because of all the private trucks running heavy loads like yours, many of them illegal, we get constant DOT checks to make sure we are legal. Do you have safety reflectors, mounted fire extinguisher, IFTA (you need it private or not) breakaway emergency brakes, flaps, etc.? I do, but am harrassed constantly on the scales because of the illegal trucks. Hotshot is not your problem, hotshot has always had to comply with the regs. They are just starting to clamp down on the trucks that do not comply.
