The water injection you have been talking about in not injected into the cylinder but into the intake (indirect injection), so it will put the fire out because it's there before and with the diesel. Put the water in after the diesel through the head it's called direct injection. Like I said it's too powerfull and breaks things.

In other words, similar to a six stroke engine (recompresses hot exhaust gases and injects water, steam expands for another power stroke). I heard about it from my brother.

What I'm talking about is a normal 4 stroke. On these 3rd gen motors if you could just get it to fire the 1st injection and then use the water/steam for the power stroke. You would have to start on the full diesel and once its up to a opperating temp change it over to water/steam and turn off the 2 and 3rd injection. Probably have to shut it down on diesel to get most of the water/steam out of the motor. More usefull for the longer trips and maybe at the track. Like I said before the emissions would probably be extreamly clean. There's a Johndeere tractor that was set up some thing like this back in the 50's/60's.

You mean once the engine is warm run it completely on water? Or do you mean have the 1st injection event diesel and once cylinder temps are high enough from combusting diesel, inject water instead of the 2nd injection event?

You need some heat every cycle, so you would just have the 1st injection event and the 2nd injection event would be water.

I get what your saying and I think it would work in principle but it would be too complicated for the normal user.

Yes average grocery getter wouldn't be practical. Long haul tucks and pulling or raceing maybe. Still you have to be able to with stand the incredible forces of water to steam expansion.
You really think it's that complicated with all the electronics on these newer trucks, just 4 or 5 more sensors and programing the computer to change over and a cool down before it's shut off.

I think Begle1 was talking about the "How Do You Like Me Now" pulling truck.
