Wanna hear a joke!

So I'm at our local Cummins dealer picking up some stuff for the truck and while I'm there I says to the parts guy " are the VPs you sell new or remans"
he looks at me puzzeled and says "I dont know in 5 years here I never had to sell one" so I says "WHAT" he says "really never sold one" Go figure once a salesman always a salesman

A lot of Cummins shops dont work on many isb's. The one in town here has only done a few vp's. They usually send the truck up to the Dodge dealer. If the dealer didnt have a good diesel tech, I'm sure that the Cummins shop would be doing a lot more though.

Id imagine if you bought a VP from Cummins, youd have to take a second mortgage out on the house. There are cheaper places to get them.

They had a "Special" on last time I was in the local C. $2799 for a motorhome VP. Even the dealer cost was "ONLY" $2300. Just glad it wasn't my pocket that got emptied on it.

I know dealers here charge about 6000 bucks to re&re a VP , that's labour and parts , now, 4 hours flat rate , and maybe a couple hours for diagnostics, that's 500 bucks max , i think shop rate is 60 or 70 an hour around here, so that leaves us with 5500 bucks... that is one expensive VP...

Figure that about 70% of the VP's that are replaced are picked up by DC warranty. I'm not suprised that they don't sell many......... or any.

Sounds like they don't even have a desire to ever sell them either, with those prices.

Must be a mistake on the price to replace an Injection Pump. You can get your entire engine rebuilt for that $??

(and they would have to take off and re-bolt up the VP to do it)

The dealer cost on mine was $2999. Core was $800 of that. The labor was $500ish minus insurance discount for a total of $2400. If I had done it my self it would have been $1200-1600 depending if I went for the HR or not. Antoher case of my time being worth the effort.

The dealers have you pretty well cornered here, if you can't change it yourself ( and most people here give you a funny look when you ask them if they have a f/p gauge, they also ask what chip my 97 has in it...)

There is one cummins dealer in the atlantic provinces , Cummins eastern Canada. There is just no where else to get a VP swapped out , if anyone even knows what a VP is for that matter. So the dealer can charge whatever it wants.
