A visit to the local Ford store ...
So this evening I stopped by our local Ford dealer, Packey-Webb in Wheaton. This dealer typcially has three or four Used Super-Duties at any one time, it's not a truck intensive dealer or area. I was literally astounded to find perhaps 14 '04 and '05 F-250's and F-350's on the lot, everything from two basic '05 regular cab white units that were identical, with about 1000 miles a piece on them, to a Dually King-Ranch model. Also there were 3 Excursions, all '04's out there as well. What did they all have in common? You guessed it - a 6.0L Diesel!
One of the Duallies had a "Ford Repurchased Vechile" label on the dash, describing the warranty that would be offered to the new owner. Hmmmmmmm. Wonder if ALL of them were "repurchased" vechiles? Most likely, I would think. The highest mileage was 20k, several were only around 2k. Wow, bet a person could get a great deal on one of these - but would YOU really want it?

The company I work for was in the process of slowly switching to Powerstrokes from Cumminses as the Dodges aged. However, they had a bad experience with the first 6.0 bought and Ford's response to the problem, and so now they have sold the offending 6.0 and are switching to Duramaxes. We(the drivers) have got our fingers crossed that the Allison transmissions will hold up.
I wouldent wory abought the Allison tranie. I know a few people that work at GM dealerships and they say that there have been just about no problems with the Allison sence the very first ones came out. The one person that said they did see a problem was on an 01 model and that was a bad line that dumped all the fluid out.
I asked about the Allisons, while at Goerends having their tranny put in. Was told that the trannys have been pretty good, as long as the engine isn't BOMBed. Then they are seeing a lot of burnt clutch packs. 2 packs in particular.
While doing a web search yesterday I came across Mrtuck.com - great site ! I found a 2003 article stating Ford did buy back some 6.0's they were unable to fix . Below that was an article saying Ward's Auto named the 6.0 one of the top10 engines of the year .
Lots of 6.0 liter buybacks here, one of my friends parents both had their 2003.5 6.0 engines replaced because of seizing(filled up with fuel in oil), then a turbo. But never heard or saw article from Wards about 6.0L
, must have been a misprint

Go to www.powerstrokeregistry.com/page18.html for the top 10 engine article . If you put ward's top 10 engine ford 6.0 in search you'll find several more articles .

Speaking of the Allison Tranny... I've heard nothing but good decent comments on them. At my uncles Tranny shop I dont think they've ever worked on a recent 3/4 ton or 1 ton chevy diesel tranny as of yet, HOWEVER they're rebuilt many 3/4 and 1 ton chevy gas tranny's being LESS than a year old. I guess they eat them like candy
