Used Truck Information

Heyas, quick questions. Called up the dodge dealer about a used dodge, runnin around 180k, and they gave me a lot of usefull info, but they can only tell me recall and warrenty work, So, where would i go to find out if the truck had any work done on it after the warrenty period?

The dealer should be able to give you the previous owners name, unless they got it at an auction and don't have the title yet..........

I don't know much about CarFax. Maybe someone else can add some info. on that, but I would expect you might be able to find it there.

I believe they can give you a list off all the service it's had done at any Dodge dealer. I think it's called a Function 4, but I'm not sure.

Ditto what 12PACK said. At least that's been my experience with a GM Suburban I was interested in & finally bought.

As for vehicle history reports: I've used both CarFax & AutoCheck & prefer AutoCheck as there, almost always, are more records (i.e., entries) with AutoCheck than with CarFax. Don't even have to subscribe to determine that, just copy & paste any VIN to both websites & look for the # of records listed. At one time I had overlapping subscriptions to both & was able to compare them. AutoCheck definitely had more entries.

Even with the dealer info, I'd still opt for a vehicle history report from one of the two companies. Knowledge IS power! Plus, it's only ~$19.95 for 60 days of unlimited reports. Definitely worth it, in my book.

Good luck.

Only problem I've encountered with CarFax is they consider any visit (for even so much as an oil change at the dealer) as counting as a mark against the vehicle records.

I don't know what you mean by "... a mark against the vehicle records" but I've never seen any sort of dealer-type entry on any of the CarFax & AutoCheck reports I've requested. And I've been doing so for more than 2 years. But then, I've mostly requested histories for vehicles built '80-'93, with just a few '95-'97. Do the histories on newer vehicles actually have dealer-type entries or are you, perhaps, confusing them with another type of service?
