US Gov't Duramax

I just left work to run to a mini-mart a few minutes ago, and while I was out I pulled up next to a new 3/4 ton Duramax with U.S Gov't plates. It did not have a hitch in the receiver, nor was there evidence that one had ever been put in there (no wear marks from sliding in and out, or marks from a pin, or anything like that). My question is, why the heck does our Gov't feel the need to spend 40k+ of my hard earned tax dollars on such a vehicle?

Anybody have any idea about what they might use it for?

I will say that the gov't didn't pay close to that amount for it. You would be suprised on what else they spend money on. If really bothers you write your congressman or woman.

Its the gov't, who knows why they do what they do? Since its a duramax maybe they use it to train mechanics on or something like that, if thats the case though they should have got a powerstroke. ha ha ha

One fuel = Supplies Management

the USG buys diesels because they want all their vehicles on one fuel for supply management. Having everything on one fuel makes keeping the troops fully loaded and ready for battle much easier. Even their motorcycles run on diesel.

Even the government doesnt have enough money to train them to work on a powerstroke. They would have to pay for labor and they cant afford that many hours.

Just check out my 6.4l

I work for the Feds at a penitentiary and we have four 2005 CTD's duallies sitting right outside my shop. We mostly use them to plow the grounds in the winter but we also use them to pull trailers from time to time. Were they a waste of money? Probably, but hey, it is better than buying a couple powerstrokes!!!

If you think that is a waste of tax dollars, I'm not going to mention the other big dollar pieces of equipment we bought that is just sitting in the parking lot doing nothing...

We install A/C & Cruise control in vehicles and I say the same thing when some government entity calls up for Crusi control in a new vehicle ($600-$800) I say why should I pay for this for you! Then you see an older car come in from the Department of Education and the A/C won't work and they won't spend a dime for this guy. I also see tens of thousands of dollars a year get spent on installation & repair of school buses for A/C.

I know my bus never had A/C in it growing up.

I am in the Air Force. One of our trucks is a 05 Duramax long box.

We use if for hauling stuff, carrying troops around, etc.

Keep in mind these are the "W/T" trucks. Rubber floor, cloth seats, AM/FM radio if we are lucky.

What are we supposed to use? A horse and cart?? The trucks are bought under contract and are pretty cheap compared to the civilian price. No where near $40k.

Don't forget I helped pay for that truck too. (Yes, despite popular belief military folks pay taxes just like everyone else does)

Come to think of it, I help pay my own wages.
