Well KC I was just trying to be humorous. But since you asked.
I have no idea how much is new.
Apparantly something must be new about the engine. I have an exhaust brake bought and paid for that is vaporware, not available yet and not sure when it will be..
The frame must be new, I worried with how to put a fifth wheel hitch in it properly when no one was sure what to do.
Their must be something new about the rearend since no one is sure how to check the fluid level.
Wiring must be new I have a warning light that comes whenever it wants on and no one can explain why.
That is all I can think of for now and I hope that is the end of my list, but time will tell, since it is a new truck.
Randy

The entire engine is new. You would be surprised. Darn good engine. Designed around EGR technology. This new engine has an EGR cooler mounted on top of the engine running parallel to the heads. Different injectors. Newly developed varaible turbo. Leaps and bounds ahead of cummins and isuzu. The 6.0 is the new standard to be met. A variable turbo on the cummins will help even the playing field. HEUI injectors are far superior to cummins design.I just hope that cummins will make some changes to their engine to keep up. When they do get better I will have me a new 3500 dually sittin in my yard. I just hope they dont go the quiet diesel route like International. Diesels werent meant to sound like cars. I believe (opinion) that dodge has the best looking truck body (1-ton) on the market. Internationals 6.0 in a dodge would kill everything out there. The 6.0 has alot more potential than what they are offering it with now. Ford is just holding back to say they have redesigned it for the 2004 model year.

Those new HEVI INJECTORS ARE 350 DOLLARS A PIECE! Wait until the (new pnewmatic valve train) is part of their package. Take a guess what that will cost to repair. As far as being ahead in performance, I like the Cummins approach-more HP/TRQ quieter and more efficent. All on the same B-series 5.9 six cylinder. Fords 7.3 was so great that they got rid of it when it met emmisions until 07.

Dieseltech:
I think that if you follow the development over here in Europe you'll see that the vast majority of customers want quiet engines. All the new technologies that are used in these engines strive to achieve lower emissions ( sound is considered an emission) and a better overall efficiency.
Most people will use these engines at an average load rate of less than 20%. So to reduce fuel consumption in everyday driving the mfgs have to go into part throttle efficiency. In the past the engines had less power, the vehicles had worse aerodynamics, so the engines were used at higher load rates.
Over here 20 years ago the average compact diesel car had about 50 hp, today it has 110 hp.
The downside of this is IMO that most mfgs will sacrifice 100% load rate efficiency and durability to achieve the optimum performance for the mass market. Over here we've got lots of new cars with enough hp to pull the trailer up the mountain, but... they won't stand the EGTs that come from sustained pulling.
What I do like about my RAM is that I can use every hp it has for as long as I want it. ( therefore I did only mild bombing) .
The general public IMO wants vehicles with huge reserves for overtaking, but will generally use only a fraction of the power available.
On the point of repair costs. I do think that with the increased reliability of the new engines repairs should become less frequent, and therefore easy access for repairs will become less of an issue compared to wind drag.

AlpineRAM
