In all my days on this planet I have never seen an engine fail like that engine failed! Am I looking at the block splitting in two?

UNBELIEVEABLE!

And we thought the puny cracks in the 53 blocks were bad.

She was a runaway, engine started sucking engine oil and since it was an unlimited source of fuel there was nothing to stop it from revving higher. Correct me if I'm wrong.

There's only so much stress a 466 block can take, when your turning a 466 that displaces around 540 cubic inches or more 5-6 grand and 120-140 lbs of boost under load. Bad things can happen real fast when something breaks. Thats kinda of a rare failure, they usually spit parts out the side before they split the block.

I think that happend 2 or 3 years ago on a New York state pulling circuit. I saw the same pictures on their website a while ago.

Thats a good way to maximize upper cylinder air flow.

Ive never seen a block split in half like that.
