Things I have had to replace on my Cummins
Re:Things I have had to replace on my Cummins
new clutch (put in a southbend cause I was adding a comp but it neededit anyways)
rebuilt tranny (nv4500, 3rd gear went out)
ball joints
front axle seals
track bar
steering box
wheel bearings
pinion seals
tranfer case seals
all 5 u-joints
lift pump
tires
batteries
acc drive belt
front brake pads
bought it about 1 1/2 yrs ago with 117,000km (72,000miles) on the clock, now it has 165,000km (100,000 miles)
it's been a bit pricey, but I love every minute of driving it

Re:Things I have had to replace on my Cummins
2002 3500- oil, oil filters, fuel filters, air filter,4 inch exhaust-
absolutely nothing needed and has 17,200 miles
1999 F-450 PSD- 184,500 miles D&H SERVICE BED
well, lets see here, its my works truck they own it, and i drive it home everyday-
just last week they spent 3000.00 for 8 new injecters and labor ??? and 3 days prior 2800.00 for engine related problems that are still there, new front suspension, and 4 wheel brake job-
now the truck makes a automatic right hand turn when the brakes are applied...
over the years it has gone thru-
6 windshields
4 sets of batteries
tires replaced 5 or more times
5 clutches
3 input shafts on the transmissions 1000.00 each
4 rear ends not under warranty
3 brake jobs
16 injectors or more
2 water pumps
4 alternators
1 starter
1 driveshaft
1 drivers side mirror, i was driving down the road and someone passed me, the passenger had their foot hanging out the side window and their shoe fell off at 75-80 MPH!!!!
that sucker took 2 bounces and BOOOM smacked the mirror, and shattered it to pieces, scared the heck out of me!
true story!
3 keys have been worn paper thin
3 turbos, this last one has lasted 110K
10 or more serp belts
3 belt tensioners
dang A/C electrical connector for high pressure or low pressure switch located on the pass side, up top by the dipstick, 4 times it has worn out!!!
1 dipstick, the serpentine belt seperated and snapped the handle off the dipstick!!! lots of fun getting that out...
i know im forgetting alot of the problems ive had with the truck, i really will never own a powerstroke in my life because of all the problems ive had with this truck-
i keep reminding my boss that a cummins motor will cost them less money in the long run, but i guess we cannot buy a dodge to use as a truck because we are not a independent store-
sucks for them, cause they could have purchased 1 dodge with all the money they spent on repairs on this furd-
sad to say the amount of money they just spent was more than 6K to get the truck to pass inspection, thats more than the cab and chassis is worth

Re:Things I have had to replace on my Cummins
97 2500 4x4 with 151k on it
3 batteries
1 set of valve cover gaskets
1 crankshaft seal
ball joints, upper and lower, now they have grease fittings
steering stabilizer
2 sets of tires
tourque converter
brakes
universal joints, to ones with grease fittings
not bad for a truck that gets used as a workhorse every day

:
:PI don`t have that much time to list everything but I`ll start with my 98 dodge 3500 4x4 diesel my engine blew up at 8,500 miles then the dealer had it for 3 weeks and replaced it with a rebuilt short block ( guy who put it in wasn`t a diesel guy ) then I had it for 5 days and the tranny went out >
I called the service guys and told them I was on my way in and when I got there they ran from me
after 3 months on the phone with them everyday they took the 98 back and gave me a 99 guess I didn`t hit my head hard enough cause I took it... my 99 has had 3 trannys
3 tourque converters
1 exhaust manifold
4 headlight switches
4 injector pumps
fuel pump $1,200 just the part
transfer pump 2 times
anyway lots more but I`m over it
take care

Re:Things I have had to replace on my Cummins
On my 2001.5 with 87k I have had to replace the following:
1 fuel tank sending unit at 52k
1 lift pump at 52k warranty
1 vp44 injection pump at 62k warranty
1 rear tail light bulb at 50k
1 set tires at 63k (my bad would have went another 20k if I hadn't ruined them)
1 set of shocks need to be replaced now
thats it other than just lube and filters aside from the goodies
and I figured since I replaced darn near everything in the fuel system except the lines I might as well change the injectors since they were bound to go bad at any moment at least that is how I rationalized "needing" new ones.

Re:Things I have had to replace on my Cummins
Reading through this thread I'm starting to come to the conclusion that the VP44 is way to problematic to bother with, look how many of the 98.5+ had to replace theirs and how many 94-98.5 don't mention the IP....
Maybe that quad cab, compass, and 6 spd really aren't worth it. ???
Why are the lift pumps so problematic? Is it from cold weather? Contaminated fuel? My M/B doesn't have a lift pump, the IP sucks the fuel it wants in.

Re:Things I have had to replace on my Cummins
The truck is a month old or so, and I've got just 5k miles. Replaced the 6 disk in dash changer. Hope by next year this will stilll be a short list!
