Thank the Lord for FP gauges

Just finished installing a fuel pressure gauge in my truck, got it all hooked up, line bled etc.. just like the directions said.

Start up the truck, less than 5 psi at idle and almost 0 psi (2 psi maybe) at 2000 rpm.

So I go to Napa, buy some fuel line, by pass the stock LP (po had fuel running through LP which obviously died), now I get a little over 5 psi at idle. It drops a tiny bit when I am driving it, but returns to 5 psi.

The Lord also makes better fuel pumps. 5 psi is still too low.

yeah 5 psi will have you replacing your IP pretty quickly. Time to get an auxillary pump or replace the cummin one. I have the BD aux lp in my 24v and it would run about 22psi at idle

I had a walbro 392 for a long time, great, easy pump.

I now have an AD 150 because of more mods, I like it a lot, too. Very easy install.

Well, according to and article I read in a past issure of TDR magazine, it said that the IP needs at least 5 psi of pressure. However, it is better to see more, so I am going to replace the Carter (6 psi max press.), with something else.

I am leaning towards a Holley Blue fuel pump, since it should be easy to source locally. Anyone have any experience with these pumps?

Do a search on Holley blue here. IIRC, they do not last very long drinking diesel fuel.

it seems that the holley pumps are hit and miss. i have had one for about a year and it has been doing great. i pulled the little screen out of mine too. i didnt hav ethe money for a FASS at the time and not many others were out so i got a holley blue and it seems fine to me. i know the airdog, raptors, fass and all them r prolly better but u gotta do what u gotta do at the time!!

Just buy a FASS HPFP and forget about it like I did... yes it was expensive, but its something to not have to worry about. Works great at VERY cold temps also.

I would like to put a FASS on and eventually will, I just need something until I can get enough extra cash for the FASS.

I am going to pick up a Holley Blue fuel pump when I get paid, then when I can afford to do the FASS, then I will swap out the Holley.

If you installed a new Carter it should be making 15 PSI. Are you sure your "new" gauge is accurate?

The factory FPs are indeed a problem, but when mine failed at 30K, Dodge replaced the original with an in-tank pump. This arangment is much better because the entire length of the fuel feed line from the tank is now under pressure not vacuum, as the original had. This prevents a small leak from airiating the fuel with the subsequent power loss. All the newer models have this mod and it is definitly worthwhile. My FP guage reading went from 7 PSI at idle (5 PSI WOT) to 9 PSI 8 (PSI at WOT)
