Heading South on I-75 in the rain today and came up behind a Duramax pulling a fifth wheel travel trailer. This guy had no fear going down hill running 75+ with that thing, but must have been scared to death to go up a hill. Just prior to the rest area below Forsyth, Ga, we were doing 45 as we lumbered along in the middle lane. Why was I still behind him? Because the traffic was so heavy and he slowed down so fast that I couldn't move into a lane that was still doing more than the MINIMUM posted speed limit on an Interstate. Finally, we got started down another hill and I was able to get over and get around that clown. I don't want to hear any more stories about how good those things pull. That one won't positively impress potential customers. To give a positive spin to our Phord brothers, a Powerstroke went by pulling a tri-axle trailer and he never skipped a beat going up the hills. I could tell he was loaded by the sagging trailer tires. Nice job Phord.

I know exactly where you are talking about, as I often saw similar sights heading from Macon to Atlanta.

The Chevies are for execs and wanna-bes. They just don't have enough steel in them.

Of course, I tend to stereotype the Phord guys as brand-loyal rednecks who buy a Ford because all their Dads and uncles have always bought them-- a real group of sheeple.

I know you know where I'm talking about. Those hills out there on 75 are just that......hills. Nothing spectacular. That truck was struggling.

 

Just when I had convinced myself that the duramax was more powerfull and could outpull my cummins and was ready to trade my cummins off you had to go and post this Just kidding I would never ever ever trade the mighty cummins for another unless it was another cummins

 

It is dangerous to be behind those trucks. The tailgates can fall off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

This reminds me of an incident last summer in my '93 460 Ford hauling my Lance camper. I came up on an old man in a early 1990's dodge cummins. He was towing what looked to be a 28-ft f'ver and struggling to do 45-mph up Vantage Pass (farely steep pass in central washington). I passed im doing 55-mpg which was my tops for my old gasser (I know don't laugh). As soon as I got around him a large motorhome diesel pusher flew by me with the driver giving me a dirty look of get the heck out of my way!

 

Yeah Vantage hill is fun. We just did a BOMBvoy up it a couple weekends ago on the way to the NW Bombers party and had one guy with his stock '97 with a pretty hefty slide-in trying to keep up. He was able to do 75 all the way up Vantage hill, ran 30psi boost and 1050 or so EGT the whole way. We had 6 trucks and passed quite a few people. Same deal on Snoqualmie. Same guy with the '97 was tailgating a loser in the left lane with a Suburban that had trouble doing more than 60-65 up Snoqualmie

I think so too!!!! Hopefully Hired Gun's 04 (if its the LLY ) will fair a little better than the others.Atleast I havent had one in yet for a problem.

By all I have seen the Maxies are definately detuned but most likely for a good reason. I make a good chunk of my living on those things so...bad for them is good for me but by the same token thats why I have a Cummins.
