Sterling axles

I been considering my open axle situation and viewing how to best remedy it. I was over at the www.thedieselstop.com and noticed theres quite a few 10.25" sterling axles in the classifieds for $500 or less. I have one under my F250, its a full floater with limited slip. The LSD is nice and works good even with a 175k and it fully locks up on asphalt.

How do these axles compare to the d70? I don't think it would be worth the effort to swap over but I may measure just for fun.

I'm familar with the sterling having had a ford or two at one time and rebuilding one completely with a friend of mine once. Just make sure its a 97 or earlier axle, when they went to the new body in 99 they changed to the metric 8 lug bolt pattern. And they have 9/16" studs where we have 1/2" studs.

At least the ones under the Fords are narrow- thats why some guys shuck out 600 dollars for bolt on hub extenders.

I did not like mine on my PSD, compared to the Dana under my CTD.

Otherwise it gave me no trouble and when I changed lube for the first time @ 100,000 miles it looked pretty good in there.

The bolt pattern will be different. Ford is using a hub centric wheel. I don't know if you would be able to change out the axle shafts to match the dodge pattern.
