Thumbs down

Truck still wanders like it did befor new trac- bar and damper.Maybe it is in the steering box.How tight should the steering be? If you turn the wheel an inch or two wile going down the road you have to turn the wheel back to center. The same thing making a turn if you don't turn the wheel back to center after making a turn you keep turning. It returns some but not back to center to go straight.

You can make two adjustments, there is a TSB or look in your Chrysler service manual. Should be done out of the truck.

Bishgeo,

It sounds like your new damper is stiff enough to resist the centering effect of the steering. I haven't looked at an '01 steering box but have adjusted the boxes on every vehicle I've had. The sector shaft play gives you steering wheel play. There should be a screw with a lock nut on top of the box. Loosen the lock nut and turn the screw in till you get near zero play, not binding. Tighten the nut. Do this with the steering box on the truck! Probably about 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Maybe more if you have a lot of miles. Some Mercedes' require turning the screw out to reduce the play.

Before you adjust the gear, make sure it is centered or you will split the case. Turn the steering wheel all the way left, then count the turns to the right, then divide by 2 and turn left. that should be center, then adjust the gear. The wander could be FEA. You can set the toe with a tape measure, but the caster and camber needs a rack.
