An 8V71 is a huge heavy engine, I don't see that fitting at all. The biggest Detroit I've seen in a Dodge was a 4-53, it fit with a decent amount of space around it.

It would be possible but the amount of work involved and custom parts would be the real issue. Is it really practical to put one in there? I have seen a 88-98 Silverado with one in it before I think I saw it on youtube it sounded bad but wasn't really practical.

I figured ha, I just like the sound of a two stroke. Maybe I could get a dt466 into a ram.

DT466 would be awesome, best motor Intl. ever put in a truck! In my opinion. Spent alot of time with BLM and USFS firefighters who were using the intl. 4-door 4x4 rigs. They said they loved that motor, seeing where they took those trucks loaded with water and gear was so cool, and crazy, tons of power and torque!!. Also drove a single cab 4x4 Dump on the farm, till I snapped the in-put shaft to the transfer case, motor didn't even know the truck was carrying a load! but the t-case sure knew there was a monster turbo diesel in front of it If somebody ever makes an engine swap kit for the cuumins to a dt466, I might consider it for a little bit at least. Both motors are so awesome.A Detroit would also be cool. I've spent time behind Detroit Inline6(Allis Chalmers cable-dozer), Inline 4 (1-yard Hydra-Unit excavator), and a V-6 ( Trojan wheel loader) all with blowers and straight piped. two strokes are so loud and cool.

The DT466 is an awesome engine but IHCs aren't hotrod friendly like ours. the lower hp DTs are dogs! Craig

Hmmm, I think the dt466 would be the way to go then. I just don't know how much money id end up spending. thats a major factor. I could be more than happy with a first gen ctd however.

Look at any tractor pull around and you'll see some dt's pushing 1500-2000hp. They can be built, just not a lot of off the shelf stuff available, kinda like working on a first gen ctd.

I'm thinking about a MDT for an rv hauler, in a few years. I like the looks of the IHC but I've never found a diesel mechanic that knows how to get good power out of them. None of them know if or where hotrod parts are available. IHC isn't as liberal with the higher temp and higher strength parts in their stockers as Cummins and I didn't know they could be built for pulling. I'd like to learn more about them! Craig
