Small turbo diesel for a small vehicle
A stout little one if you can find it is a Nissan SD22 or SD24 from the 80's Datsun pickups. These are actually an industrial engine - forklift, marine, etc. The sister engine is the SD33 (6cyl) used in the 79-80 Scouts. Excellent economy. Great torque.
There it is : http://www.hpamotorsport.com/tdijeep.htm
I would really love to use this motor in an s-10 or colorado. Jeeps are cool, but I would like a small truck bed for chainsaw, etc.

THe guy I knew that used to do this kind of stuff would stuff a 240D 4 banger in those interim jeeps the army used prior to the Humvee.
IIRC he had an adapter plate made by the local machine shop because he had a pile of them on a pallet in one of his sheds.
Not sure what he used for a flywheel and clutch but I do remember it bolted up to what was already in the jeep.
His market was for old desert rats that liked to go crawl around the Southwest and there were quite a few of them runnin around.
If he is still alive he might help you out. His name is Mike Breining from Fallbrook CA. Maybe google him.

There are more of those in Jeeps than any other. You can find conversion pieces and FAQs all over.
My YJ is just waiting until it's 4.2 dies to get it's babyC. I've sourced them from several of the junkyards around here. a lot of small delivery trucks have them and they may have a lot of miles when they are scrapped but they have many more left in them.
