Rumble in the Rockies Ford Vs Chevy
Rumble in the Rockies Ford Vs Chevy
Some good reading here with pictures. Big problems for Dodge if this is accepted as the norm by the readers. Dodge needs to find a load or get out of the towing business. Ford needs JOB #3.

yep.. already read that one... I wish there was a test done like this with all gear ratios being equal, load the Dodge to GCWR, and load the other two with the maximum of the Dodge and re-test all three..
Has that been done?
Has that been done?
Here is what Pickup Truck Mag said about why the Ram was not in the mix.
"Where’s Ram?"
"If you were wondering where the Ram 3500 is in all of this, it wasn't included because these weights exceeded its 24,500 maximum GCWR by more than 2,500 pounds. It wouldn’t have been safe or responsible to test the truck in these conditions."

What were they scared of the Ram with less HP/TQ of showing the other 2 up? I agree they could of put the gross weight for all 3 at the Ram Maximum but did not do so for some reason known only to those who were doing the test.
I can't believe they are ignorant enough to waste the days out of their life and NOT include the Dodge. why do tests if you only test two-thirds of the population?
that looks like they really did their homework and did some awesome real world testing.....that is totally useless, because they left out the Dodge.
that's like buying a McDonald's hamburger, walking past Burger King, buying a Hardees burger, and declaring McDonald's the "best ever"
that's a waste of journalism dribble. why WOULD they do that and NOT put Dodge in there? at least pound it in our face if our trucks are weaker.
my daughter took my bone stock 2004 CTD 4x4 4:10 truck up in the mountains, and another couple in a GMC toting a similar load took GREAT GLEE in passing them uphill every chance they got. dude in GMC's wife's job was to wave as they sailed past my CTD
(that's the 2004 i blew up trying to hot rod)
no matter how the results ended up... I wish they would have done it to end all debate this year... Load them to the max allowable of the Dodge and put all three up against each other...
That article is smelling fishy... While they left out all the GM reps and advertising, its coming pretty clear that it was all GM funded..
GM KNEW the results of that test LONG before it was ever propositioned.. then they got a third party to "independently test" the trucks..
It makes me REALLY wonder about the outcome of entering the Dodge into the competition.... either it beat the GM, or came so close that the GM was afraid that customers might decide to keep the extra $$$ to purchase a GM and jsut buy the cheaper Dodge..
hhhhhmmmmmmm.....

Why is it always a race?? For heavens sake they ALL pull absurd amounts of weight over just about anything they face anyway. The fact that another truck does it 3 seconds faster really is a moot point. Racing with all that weight is IMHO reckless and irresponsible anyway. Slow and steady ALWAYS wins the race when towing...because in reality it is all about SAFETY right?
Honestly, I bought the Cummins to tow reliably and for a long time. How long will the compacted graphite in the ford last? (No, I don't want to be a 70k dollar Guinea pig) How long will the chevy aluminum heads go before warping & leaking? I remember reading a story about a duramax that went 750,000 miles and they were raving about it like its something unusual. Around here there are quite a few Cummins that go over the 1 million mark and keep going and its not that big of a deal. When I tow, I am not in a drag race. When I want to accelerate HARD, I take out the Yamaha SX Viper 700. When I need to tow my trailers around and not have to worry about the motor, I hook them up to the Cummins...
Media hype.. I could actually care less about speed when pulling. I really want to be able to stop when I need to. Talk about being overweight, is it bad to pull 21-22K with a 3/4 ton 4x4??? hahahaha
Because Dodge, GM, and Ford don't test and set GCWR the same. They all test and set them differently. The authors/testers didn't state that, did they? They can take that GM piece of junk on down the road along with the Ford in my book. Who cares...... Until they can compare Apples to Apples, it dosen't much matter.
Magazine tests rate right down there with EPA mileage ratings, they don't mean crap!!!
Real world testing is all that matters because that is where it all happens in the end.
Believe me, I couldn't care less if one truck or another will get a load somewhere 3 seconds faster then the next one. I want it to get there over and over and over again reliably and that's what matters.
Over the years I have had many guys I work with want to race me with their Fords and GM's. I never did bother with most of them and yes, I got ragged on about it afterwards BUT where are they now? I'm still driving my slow Dodge and hauling the same weight as I always have and they are all driving their own Dodges now.
Magazines tests don't have anything to show about reliability because that doesn't sell magazines. It's all about flash and horsepower and who is better than who. Throw the manufacturers in the mixed with their "untouched" trucks supplied to the magazines and it gets even better.
I bought my Dodge because it had a Cummins in it. A reliable old cast iron pig of a 6 cylinder motor, simple as that. Sure it has had it's problems but with over 200,000 miles on it, it's still going and the others have been traded in. Where is that test in the magazines?

At the end of the day, they are all about selling trucks. The insecure and easily impressed buy them up. The secure and mature look for more. That's us. I have nothing to prove to anyone else. So what if your truck is faster, has more bling, or has more hp/tq? I am happy and secure with mine, and I have the title to mine stashed away. Call me when you need a tow or pulled out.
